Poland is the sixth largest e-commerce market in Europe — and growing faster than most Western European countries. At the heart of that market is Allegro: a platform with more than 22 million active buyers, 135,000 active sellers, and a market share that puts Amazon, eBay, and all other marketplaces combined in the shade.

Yet Allegro rarely appears on the radar of non-European brands. That's a missed opportunity.

What is Allegro?

Founded in 1999 in Poland, Allegro has grown into the dominant online marketplace in Central and Eastern Europe. The platform operates in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary — but Poland is by far its largest market.

Unlike Amazon or bol.com, Allegro is purely locally dominant. Polish consumers don't search Google and land on Amazon — they go directly to Allegro. Any brand that wants to reach Poland cannot bypass it.

🇵🇱 With more than 22 million active buyers, Allegro reaches nearly half the Polish population. The average Polish online shopper visits Allegro multiple times per week.

Why Poland is attractive for non-EU brands

Poland is no longer just a low-cost production country. It's a mature consumer market with a rapidly growing middle class, high smartphone penetration, and a strong preference for online shopping.

Key figures for 2025–2026:

Indicator Value
E-commerce revenue Poland ~€14 billion (2025)
Annual growth ~15%
Allegro market share >60% of online purchases
Average spend per buyer Rising, now comparable to Czech Republic

Categories that perform well on Allegro: electronics and gadgets, sports and outdoor, home and garden, fashion and accessories, health and beauty, and pet supplies. Virtually every product category that performs well on Amazon US or bol.com also performs strongly on Allegro.

How selling on Allegro works

Allegro operates on a marketplace model similar to Amazon. Sellers list their products on the platform, manage their own pricing, and handle fulfillment. Allegro charges a commission per sale — typically between 6% and 12% depending on the category.

Allegro Fulfillment (AFF)

Allegro offers its own fulfillment service, similar to Amazon FBA. Products are stored in Polish warehouses and shipped by Allegro. This boosts visibility in search results and gives access to the Allegro Smart! loyalty programme — the Polish equivalent of Amazon Prime, with more than 4 million members.

Own fulfillment via a European 3PL

Alternatives to Allegro Fulfillment include European 3PL partners with a Polish distribution network. This offers more flexibility for brands also serving other European markets.

What Allegro requires from non-EU sellers

This is where most non-European brands hit a wall. Allegro has specific requirements for foreign sellers that cannot be bypassed:

  • A valid European VAT number (PL-VAT or OSS registration) — Without EU VAT registration, you cannot sell on Allegro. Polish VAT filing is required above the threshold, or via the OSS system.
  • A European entity or a Merchant of Record — Allegro requires a legal entity that is accountable under EU consumer law. A company registration outside the EU is not sufficient.
  • Product labelling in Polish — Many product categories require Polish-language labels and instructions. This is a legal requirement under Polish law, not merely a recommendation.
  • GPSR compliance — As a non-EU brand, you need a responsible person in the EU under the General Product Safety Regulation.
  • A European return address — Polish consumers have the right to return within 14 days. You need an operational European returns address.

⚠️ Allegro enforces compliance more strictly than many other European marketplaces. Sellers who do not meet local legal requirements are suspended. Starting correctly is essential.

The language barrier: don't underestimate it

Allegro is a Polish platform for Polish consumers. The quality of your product listings in Polish directly determines your conversion rate. Machine translations are spotted immediately by Polish buyers and damage trust in your brand.

Professional Polish product copy, Polish-language reviews, and Polish customer service are not optional extras — they are the standard that successful sellers on Allegro maintain.

How Crossello helps

As a Merchant of Record for physical goods in Europe, Crossello can arrange your full access to Allegro:

  • European entity and VAT registration (including Polish VAT or OSS) required by Allegro
  • GPSR compliance as responsible person for your products in the EU
  • Professional Polish product copy and listing optimisation
  • European fulfillment with Polish distribution network or Allegro Fulfillment
  • Polish customer service and returns handling
  • Account management from listing to order processing

💡 Non-EU brands working with Crossello to launch on Allegro don't need to register their own European company. Crossello acts as Merchant of Record, handles all compliance, and manages your account on the platform.

Poland is growing faster than most European markets and Allegro is the only serious gateway to it. For brands already performing well on Amazon.de or bol.com, Allegro is a logical next step — with significantly less competition from international brands than on Western marketplaces.
